Liverpool opinion: The Reds should keep Camacho despite Wolves interest

According to a report in MSN, Wolves are among the clubs interested in signing Liverpool youngster Rafa Camacho. German side RB Leipzig, apart from Portuguese giants Benfica and Sporting, are also keeping close tabs on the player.

The 18-year-old has one more year left in his contract and if the Reds fail to agree on an extension, he might be sold to one of the interested clubs.

As per the Guardian, Jurgen Klopp is keeping an eye on Wolves wing-back Ruben Vinagre, and could make a swap deal in which Camacho could go the other way.

However, here’s why Liverpool should keep hold of their youngster and offer him a new contract:

Camacho is one for the near future

Predominantly a winger, Camacho is adept in playing as a full-back, wing-back or as an attacking midfielder. In a sense, he is pretty similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who also went up the ranks at Liverpool and finally established his place in the first-team.

The Portugal U20 international has the pace of a winger and the passing qualities of a midfielder. His control of the ball in tight spaces and the awareness to the read the game is incredible for such a young player.

Being a winger, the 18-year-old has the dribbling skills to go past defenders in a flash and create space for a cross or shot on goal. This season, he has scored 5 goals and supplied 5 assists in 12 Premier League 2 appearances.

In terms of his achievement in the senior team, Camacho played an FA Cup tie for Liverpool against Wolves and impressed many. He also came on as a substitute in a Premier League game against Crystal Palace and made an attack-saving tackle in the 92nd minute.

Back in the January transfer window, we saw Klopp vetoing the youngster’s transfer away from Anfield (h/t Liverpool Echo). It showed that the gaffer still prefers the player to stay at the club and continue his development.

All in all, it would make sense for Liverpool to keep hold of Camacho and offer him an extension. From the youngster’s viewpoint, staying at one of the biggest clubs in Europe and continuing his development would be ideal for him.
