Why Liverpool should go all out to sign AC Milan’s Suso in January
Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri has hinted that he could be forced to leave the club if he can’t secure more first-team minutes at Anfield.
The Switzerland international, 27, joined the Reds from Stoke City in the summer of 2018. The speedy attacker made 24 Premier League appearances last season, however, he only started in eleven of them. He was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup showpiece in Istanbul last week.
Although he picked up an injury while playing in the Nations League in June, Xherdan Shaqiri has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool over the past few months and there is suggestion the 27-year-old could go this summer as the transfer window is still open in Europe’s other big leagues.
It is clear Shaqiri has become a fringe player at Liverpool and following Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return from injury, he is set to have a limited role this campaign.
If the right offer comes the Reds must sell the Switzerland international this summer. Klopp won’t be able to sign a replacement now but he has enough players in his squad to sustain until January.
Back in May, Liverpool were linked with AC Milan star Suso. The Spaniard, who joined AC Milan from Liverpool in January 2015, made 21 first-team appearances for the Premier League side, scoring once, but has gone on to become a mainstay at the San Siro.
He has established himself as one of the best players in Serie A and with that in mind, the Reds must reignite their interest in Suso and bring him back to Anfield in January.
As many can agree on, Suso has been one of the best, if not the best, Milan players in the last two seasons. He is a fantastic dribbler and extremely good in tight spaces, capable of producing moments of magic.
Technically sound, the Spaniard’s agility and low centre of gravity combined with his close control, dribbling ability and distribution skills make him a dangerous prospect in central areas.

The Milan man is adept at playing centrally or on the right flank, where he can cut inside and wreak havoc with his hammer of a left foot.
With teams often pressing opponents a lot more in the Premier League with a lot of intensity, someone like Suso will be a fantastic player to have in the Liverpool side as he’s extremely press-resistant due to his low centre of gravity.
Verdict
Suso has an affordable release clause in his contract worth €40m and a return to Anfield would give Liverpool some much-needed quality and depth in the final third, whilst being an upgrade on Shaqiri.
