Liverpool Player Ratings vs Hull City – Coutinho Should Have Started

Liverpool have been really struggling this season and even today they could not break a Hull City defence for the entire 90 minutes. The silver lining in this cloud is that after a long time Liverpool have not conceded a goal and thus the match ended goalless at Anfield. After an uninspired performance against Real Madrid a couple of days back, it was chance for Liverpool to get some moral boosting by registering a win, but they failed to capitalize on the opportunity and ended up splitting the points. Manager Brendan Rodgers has a lot of thinking to do after this match as most of his players have underperformed. Here’s a ratings of the players who took the field for the Merseyside club.

Simon Mignolet– Not tested too much, with Hull registering just one shot on target. Even that ball fell straight to him. Was not the best to distribute the balls at times.

Ratings- 7/10

Martin Skrtel– Did extremely well for Liverpool with his sense of positioning and his physicality. Kept the ball out of the danger area for most of the time and was good in his tackles.

Ratings- 7.5/10

Dejan Lovren- Almost scored a goal in the first half, but eventually the ball was cleared off the line. Defensively not the most solid around and his passing could be better than it has been.

Ratings- 7/10

Javier Manquillo– Went in the attacking mode far too often, but could not finish it off. Against a better opposition would struggle in the defence with his tendency to leave his own half.

Ratings- 7/10

Alberto Moreno– Did not do too much, both offensively and defensively. His link up play was unimpressive and did not provide the balls to the attackers often.

Ratings- 6/10

Joe Allen– The Welshman was one of the most subdued players today with his game completely lacking the energy. Was subbed off after the interval.

Ratings- 5/10

Emre Can- Showed glimpses of his potential with his direct running and his tracking back. If he can keep his up, Rodgers would certainly use him far more often.

Ratings- 7.5/10

Steven Gerrard– Was most effective from the dead ball situations. Came close to scoring on a couple of occasions.

Ratings- 7/10

Adam Lallana– Was good only in parts. Made the left side his own and got the better of the defenders on a couple of occasions with no end products.

Ratings- 7/10

Raheem Sterling– Was modest by his standard. Could have done better with the kind of opportunities he had. But was well marked.

Ratings- 6/10

Mario Balotelli– Yet another less than average performance from the Italian. This would frustrate him and could have other implications.

Ratings- 5/10

Rickie Lambert– Came on at the hour mark. Provided one decent cross, but did not add too much value to the squad.

Ratings- 6/10

Philippe Coutinho– Did all he could after coming off the bench. Almost scored from a long range effort, but the keeper saved the ball. Even in last few games, he has been influential. It’s about time Rodgers should pick him in the starting lineup

Ratings- 8/10

Jordan Henderson- Came on late. Did not have much impact on the game. Was booked for simulation.
