Liverpool Opinion: Top 3 Realistic Replacements For Brendan Rodgers

Share

Football is a fickle sport, there seems to be no love lost for the past and everything about the game is about the here and now. Brendan Rodgers last year was considered as the greatest thing to have happened to Liverpool in the Premier League era and was a whisker away from winning the Premier League, he was championed by most supporters when things were going right. Fast forward to this season and Rodgers could be the next manager to get the dreaded sack.

His team has looked woeful many times, he hasn’t handled the Steven Gerrard situation well and even Raheem Sterling seems to want to leave the club, although the youngster is asking for ludicrous money in the first place. FSG have maintained that this is a long term plan and Rodgers is the right man for the job that will surely be tested in the summer when many managers will be knocking on doors at Anfield. Liverpool might need a chance to help them become better or come back to the Champions League or even better as Liverpool still search for that elusive Premier League title, here are the 3 best choices who could replace Rodgers.

1. Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp

The entire footballing world was shocked to hear Klopp leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season, Klopp has transformed the club into almost every neutral’s favourite team from Germany. They played fast counter-attacking football and won a couple of Bundesliga titles before Bayern Munich woke up and took the league by storm again.

Klopp would be a perfect choice to replace Rodgers if that situation arises. He has worked with limited funds at Dortmund, has a great eye for talent and it seems that all his players want to battle it out on the field for him, his only downside is that he expects a little too much from every player and this season was a reality of what can happen if things don’t go right.

3. Frank de Boer

The former Ajax and Barcelona defender has done a brilliant job at Ajax, another club which has a big place in footballing folklore. De Boer has won the Dutch league 4 times in a row and has the big match experience as he was the assistant coach of the Dutch national team during their 2010 run at the World Cup final where they lost to Spain.

De Boer is only 44 years old, so he would fit the policy at FSG of getting a young manager. His team does play a good brand of football and he was courted at one point to come to Tottenham, he may not move to London but Liverpool could come calling soon.

3. Lucian Favre

Probably one of the rather older managers who would be considered for the role at Liverpool but Favre has a history of doing really well with limited funds and his team do play good football. The Swiss manager leads another Borussia in the Bundesliga. Borussia Monchengladbach might be a little obscure to the people who do not follow the Bundesliga, but they have been incredible this season and could return to the Champions League at the end of the season.

Favre might be a little old at 57 but he still is someone who has great football acumen and could come in handy for Liverpool.
