Why Liverpool Need Not Worry About Jordan Henderson And Rather Have Confidence In Their Captain

Apart from Philippe Coutinho, none of Liverpool’s central midfielders are world-class at the moment, including captain Jordan Henderson. Players like Adam Lallana and James Milner are good right now but definitely won’t play a central part in the club’s future in the years to come.

So does that mean Liverpool should find a competition or a potential replacement for Jordan Henderson? Not necessarily. Henderson isn’t just a senior member of the Liverpool squad but also the captain of the club. Jurgen Klopp clearly sees a leader in him which is why Hendo still holds the captain’s armband.

The England international had endured a lot of criticism from fans and pundits regarding his lack of goals, and injury problems. The last two seasons weren’t exactly his best, with recurring injuries and management issues. But Henderson is slowly but surely finding a purpose in the side.

Henderson, who is also the England skipper has come a long way from his days at Sunderland to representing a historic club like Liverpool. Even Steven Gerrard has plenty of praise for the English midfielder and was happy about his winning goal against Leicester City last week.

He said,

“When you’re a captain at a big club you’ve got to step up in big moments and produce special things. He got the winner.

“I’m really pleased for him and he deserves the praise that will come his way.”

In terms of stats, Henderson is definitely up there with the best as he completed the most passes (508) and 4th most tackles per game (4.1) in the league last season before he suffered his foot injury. We are just 6 games into the Premier League season and the Reds skipper has plenty of time to hit form, making him a key player for Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool really do not require another midfielder at the moment, with the midfield already packed. The Merseysiders also have Naby Keita joining them next summer and should find himself partnering Henderson in the middle.

There have also been plenty of questions raised regarding his capabilities as the captain of Liverpool and whether he really deserves the captain’s armband. Well, Henderson has certainly started answering his critics with inspiring performances in the last two games. The midfielder has also been quite vocal with the referees and has looked like a real leader in the past few games.

Things will only be getting better for Henderson and Liverpool as the season progresses and the fans should keep faith in their captain who is just getting started.
