Rafa Benitez may have left Anfield few years ago, but senior Reds who played in his tenure still have a warm relation with him. And sometimes they can’t ignore Benitez’s call.
Exactly is the case with Reds goal-keeper Pepe Reina. The veteran will be on loan to Serie A side Napoli where Benitez is currently designated as the manager. This 30-year old Spaniard was Liverpool’s leading man under the bar for eight consecutive years. In Benitez’s regime at Anfield, Reina was the manager’s first choice.
Starting his career at Barcelona, Reina later moved to another La Liga side Villarreal. It was in 2005, when Reina was brought to Anfield by Rafa Benitez. Since then, he has been an integral part of Liverpool’s major triumphs including FA Cup and Champions League.
So, it is not a surprise why Benitez has asked for him. And keeping the fact that current Reds manager Brendan Rodgers assigned Samuel Mignolet this year could have alarmed the bell for the veteran Reina.
Now considering the Reds point of view, leaving Reina would not have been a tough task for Rodgers. But he will get a real blow if Daniel Agger leaves Anfield this year. If reports are to be believed, after Barcelona’s futile effort to pen down PSG defender Thiago Silva, the Spanish giant are eager to recruit Agger this season.
After Thiago Silva turned down Camp Nou’s effort, Daniel Agger has been the primary target of Barcelona. Though Chelsea’s David Luiz and Roma’s Marquinho’s were also in their list, but Agger is being believed to be a perfect match for the Barcelona philosophy.
Although Barcelona are currently facing a crisis at hand with the task of replacing Tito Vilanova, who has quit following the relapse of his cancer, their interest in Agger stands firm and the new manager would also, in all probability, want him in the team.
Now in absence of Villanova, it’s really interesting to see how Barcelona deal with Daniel Agger transfer.
