Leeds United opinion: The Whites should sign Helder Costa
According to reports in the Sun, Leeds United are looking to sign Helder Costa on a loan deal from Wolves. The Portuguese made a fine start to the season but lost his starting place after a change in formation that saw Nuno Espirito Santo shift from a 3-man-attack to 2-man-attack.
The Portuguese is most often deployed as an inside forward on the right-hand side but is just as capable of playing on the opposite flank.
He’s had an inconsistent season, thriving in the bigger games against the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Spurs but failing to show the same levels of quality in other games, which can be said of the entire Wolves team.
By the second half of the season, he was no longer a starter with Nuno Santo going for a front-two of Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez. Costa will be looking for more game time and has experience in the Championship which is why a loan move to Leeds wouldn’t be the worst idea.
Leeds, on the other hand, are still recovering from the disappointment of not making in into the Premier League after failing at the final hurdle in the playoffs against Derby county.
Leeds were poised to not just make it into the Premier League but were also favourites to be at the very top of the Championship table. A decline in form saw them not only lose out on the top-spot to Norwich but also saw them lose out on second place to Sheffield United which pushed them to third place.
Despite the frustration of losing out after coming so close, the side from Elland road have another entertaining season to look forward to with Marcelo Bielsa continuing his tenure as the Gaffer for another year.
The Argentine, also known as ‘El Loco’, has been a real breath of fresh air on English soil, using his high-pressing style of football and tactical acumen in England to great use.
Costa’s defensive work-ethic and quality in the final third will fit in perfectly at Elland Road. Costa might look at this as a step down but the opportunity to play under Bielsa is a fantastic opportunity for any player.

Leeds will be looking to make amends as soon as possible to erase the memory of the 2018/19 season as soon as possible. Nothing excites fans and teammates more than fresh faces at the club and Helder Costa could be the first of many.
