It’s been a weekend full of goals in the English Premier League, as Liverpool celebrated a 5-3 victory over Stoke and Man City impressed in a controversial win against Newcastle to climb the top of the table. Still Arsenal regained their lead, winning against Aston Villa in an away game on Monday. Here are the chosen 11 players who have shown outstanding performances this weekend:

Goal Keeper & Defence

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart | Manchester City

Southampton’s returing Pole Artur Boruc and Chelsea’s Petr Cech have both been great, however it’s the Citizens‘ goalie who takes the place in the top eleven. The Englishman thrilling save from Loic Remy has helped the team to secure their 2-0 win despite controversy in the first-half. It was then, when referee Mike Jones disallowed a goal for Newcastle Utd on the grounds that Yoan Gouffran has prevented Joe Hart from saving by blocking the sight of the shot.

Defender: Luke Shaw | Southampton

Luke Shaw

The 18-year-old has been solid on the Premier League grounds ever since debuting for Saints. His performance this weekend helped Southampton score a tight 1-0 win over West Brom as the hot prodigy showed class not only in defence, but also in attack.

Defender: Aleksandar Kolarov | Manchester City

The Serbian international was named man of the match by the Guardian, showing he is one of EPL’s top defenders. A set up for Edin Dzeko’s opening goal is only one of the reasons Kolarov has found a place in the Team of the Week.

Defender: Phil Jagielka | Everton

Jagielka has shown another stupendous performance in defence, whereas he has not been called up by boss Roy Hodgson to the English national team, as the coach preferred to choose Chelsea‘ John Terry to make his return. Now that the Toffees‘ centre-back is back in top form, Hodgson should think over his decisions.

Defender: Ashley Cole | Chelsea

The full-back seems rejuvenated, showing a completely stunning backheel assist for Eden Hazard to scoal the first one against Hull. Now Luke Shaw along with Leighton Baines have a hard nut to crack if they want to make the national first team for Brazil.

Midfielders

Midfielder: Gareth Barry | Everton

It’s nice to see a blossoming loan deal, especially when it comes to Gareth Barry’s move to Everton. Showing that at the age of 33 he is still strong in defence, maybe he could find a spot for himself at City next season?

Midfielder: Eden Hazard | Chelsea

Hazard

The Belgian has put off another breath-taking performance, scoring an absolute screamer against Hull on Sunday. The 23-year-old has five goals and three assists in his last eight EPL matches, showing he is an in-form beast in the midfield.

Midfielder: Jack Wilshere | Arsenal

Wilshere

Wilshere was the man to assist and score in the Gunners‘ double quickfire against Aston Villa in their away 1-2 win. In just two minutes, the Englishman first scored to later assist Giroud in the second goal. Aged 22, Arsenal youngster can be sure of a place in Roy Hodgon’s national team if he continues outstanding run.

Midfielder: Adnan Januzaj | Manchester United

One of the hottest prospects of English Premier League has once more proved he is not an overrated youngster. The 18-year-old playmaker played a huge role in Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Swansea and with each performance develops even more.

Forwards

Forward: Luis Suarez | Liverpool

Suarez

Two goals along with one assist have been added to the Uruguayan’s account after another huge win by the Reds. While some may say he is a overrated and controversial player, I’m not afraid to go as far as saying Suarez is currently the best footballer in the English Premier League.

Forward: Alvaro Negredo | Manchester City

The Spaniard has been having an impressive season at Manchester City, trusted by manager Manuel Pellegrini, has found the net again, now against Newcastle in the extra-time to secure the Citizens‘ win.
