Why This Italian International Is A Jose Mourinho Type Of Player And What Does The Future Hold For Him

At the start of the season when Matteo Darmian was brought into Manchester United, he would have expected to stick to his right-back slot, but cue a few months later and the Italian was playing in almost every position in the back line.

The 25-year-old had impressed for Italy in the 2014 World Cup and even stared his Manchester United career really well before trailing off a bit, but most of the team had a poor time last year under ex-manager Louis van Gaal.

Darmian, like the rest of the squad, should be thinking about his future at the club, especially with new manager Jose Mourinho coming in. Someone who is known to replace players on a whim and fancy, the Italian could be on the chopping block before the start of the next campaign; however we do not think that should be the case.

Jose Mourinho is known for loving players who put in a shift and can do the defensive duties diligently. Matteo Darmian is Italian and defending runs in his veins, that should be reason enough to keep him at Manchester United and with Mourinho till, well the manager does leave the job, which is in about three years’ time.

Darmian is a player who is extremely versatile and can play on either flank, the great thing about the 25-year-old is that he is two-footed and that in itself is a great option to have in the team. He can also play on the wings or in midfield, but defending is what the Italian is good at and that is exactly what Mourinho would expect out of him.

The Portuguese manager would want to bring in his own set of players, but Darmian seems to be a player that can be trusted with a job and he should not face the same fate as Juan Mata, who should be leaving the club once Mourinho gets a chance to sell him.

The defender made 41 appearances in total for Manchester United last season and even though he did miss a few games due to injury that should not cast a doubt about his future at the club. Darmian is committed to the cause and he would be a great option for Jose Mourinho to have next season.

The former Chelsea manager will also not find right-backs or left-backs to come so easily and with the quality that Darmian already possesses and the kind of work Mourinho would do for the Italian in making him better, this could be one player who does do well for the club side next season and get better under the Portuguese manager.
