West Brom opinion: Baggies want Issac Hayden – good move?

According to a report in Birmingham Mail, West Brom target Isaac Hayden has made it pretty clear that he wants to leave Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old was on Albion’s radar before in January when he first stated his desire to leave Tyneside. But Rafa Benitez blocked the move as he wanted to secure replacement first before letting go of the player (h/t Birmingham Mail).

As of now, Hayden’s contract expires in 2021, hence, West Brom may have to pay a sizeable amount in order to secure the services of the midfielder (h/t Birmingham Mail).

Here’s why the Baggies must pay whatever it takes to complete the 23-year-old’s move this time:

West Brom need a quality midfielder in the summer

West Brom are in a moment where they are destined to miss some of their first-choice midfielders. The trio of Chris Brunt, Gareth Barry and James Morrison have their contracts expiring at the end of this season, and they haven’t signed an extension yet.

Furthermore, youngster Rekeem Harper, who moved up from the Baggies academy, is also having his contract end in the summer. Hence, it is crucial that the club signs a new central midfielder in the summer.

That being said, Isaac Hayden could be an ideal addition to this team. The midfielder has had a great season at Newcastle, but wants to leave St.James’ Park.

If we look at his numbers this season, he has a pass completion rate of 78.5%, while winning aerial duels at an average of 2.5 per 90 minutes.

The 23-year-old’s work rate and contribution off the ball is impressive, to say the least. The tackle and interception rate of 2.8 and 1.7 makes it clear that he is decisive in winning duels in the middle of the park. (whoscored)

Conclusion

Therefore, it is clear West Brom require a central midfielder and Hayden could help them in this situation.
