How Signing This Versatile English Star Could Transform Liverpool Next Season

The investigation for the somewhat faltering season for Liverpool has begun and the one region where the club needs to take a good hard look at themselves is their transfer dealings. Liverpool might not have had a large net spend, but they brought in a lot of players and most of them have not been able to click. Be it a new country for some or the fact that they haven’t been able to make a transition to playing for a big club, things need to be fixed at Liverpool and fast.

Instead of using the FSG policy of signing young, news has been creeping in that Liverpool are in pole position to sign James Milner from Manchester City. The 29-year-old has been a peripheral figure for Manchester City over the years and now that his contract is ending, he seems set to play for Liverpool and this signing could be one of the biggest deals Liverpool could pull off in the summer.

Grit and determination

One thing you can never accuse Milner of is not giving 100% while playing for a team, he has represented Leeds United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Manchester City and every single time he has put on a jersey, he has given it all. Liverpool need someone who is willing to take up the fight when playing for them, something that has been missing in a lot of players this season. Milner is not one to take things lightly on the pitch and he would be brilliant to rile up his teammates and get them charged up for matches.

Experience in the Premier League

With Steven Gerrard leaving the club and the likes of Daniel Agger and Pepe Reina not there anymore, Liverpool need to have someone who has Premier League experience. The club might have a lot of young players, but that would come to naught until they have Premier League experience under their belts and who better than Milner to help them through the games? Milner has over 300 appearances for his clubs and that would come in good stead for Liverpool, who need to have leaders in the team next season.

Versatility, thy name is Milner

One of Milner’s great strengths is his ability to play in multiple positions. Throughout his career, he has been deployed in multiple positions with great effect, right back, left back, defensive midfielder, and as a winger too, there seems to be nothing that Milner cannot do. Liverpool have played many formations in the last two seasons and having a player as versatile as Milner would be icing on the cake. Milner is comfortable playing in any of those positions though his preferred position might be in the attacking third, Liverpool would be ecstatic if he does sign for them and provides this much support to the club. This could be the best signing Liverpool make all summer, well unless they sign Messi or Ronaldo.
