According to the Scottish Sun, Arsenal intends to push ahead with attempts to sign Kieran Tierney this summer despite seeing two bids for the defender rejected.
Scottish champions Celtic are refusing to budge on their £25million asking price and are insisting Arsenal pay that fee upfront. Napoli also retains an interest in Tierney, who has achieved so much at Parkhead at just 22 years old.
It’s proving difficult for Arsenal to agree on a fee with Celtic for the Scotland international, and with just over a week left for the transfer deadline, the north Londoners need to quickly find a solution to solve their left-back woes.
Back in March, Rennes defender Ramy Bensebaini had claimed that he was meant to sign for Arsenal before “work permit problems” scuppered his dream move to England.
The Algerian defender, who joined Rennes from Paradou AC in his homeland back 2016 after loan spells at Lierse and Montpellier, enjoyed a top last season in Ligue 1. He managed 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting once, whilst helping Rennes to the Europa League round of 16.
After a solid Ligue 1 season, the time could be ripe for Arsenal to rekindle their interest in Ramy Bensebaini and sign him this summer.
The Gunners must reinforce their backline after conceding over 50 goals this past season. William Saliba has signed for Unai Emery’s side but he will spend the upcoming season with Saint-Etienne, which means the Frenchman won’t be able to make an immediate impact at the Emirates.
Plus, Laurent Koscielny is edging closer to exit as the veteran French defender is expected to join Rennes in the coming days.
There are concerns at the left-back position as well, with Nacho Monreal past his prime and Sead Kolasinac yet to convince Emery in that area. Thus, the signing of Ramy Bensebaini would make a lot of sense for Arsenal.
A central defender by trade, Bensebaini is equally adept playing at left-back and in defensive midfield.
He has showcased his ability to contribute going forward for Rennes in the past couple of seasons and is perhaps even stronger when it comes to the defensive side of the game, though, which will be particularly useful for Arsenal.

The Algerian international has good pace and is a powerful dribbler with the ball down the left flank. He is a dominant presence out in the wide areas, more than capable of putting in telling crosses in the box for the strikers to feast upon.
Hence, Arsenal signing Bensebaini could turn out to be a positive move for both parties. The 24-year-old will benefit from having the platform to express himself at the Emirates Stadium and fulfil his potential under Emery.
