Has Pep Guardiola Made An Easier Choice By Opting For Bayern Munich Ahead Of Epl ?

Pep Guardiola has been confirmed as the new Bayern Munich coach yesterday and the Spaniard will replace Jupp Heynckes when his contract expires at the end of the season. Thus after weeks on speculations linking him with various clubs across Epl has finally ended ended at-least as of now. So looking closely, why has Guardiola chosen Bayern ahead of clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City ?

Taking into account the footballing matters, it perfectly makes sense. Bayern are a great club with excellent history and traditions along with top class fans and a culture which resounds around Munich (and the world). On the pitch they play possession football in the middle of the park as Barcelona do, so Pep will work wonders for them in that respect. It is easy to come out and say Pep has chosen the easiest option available to him but making a move to England with either Chelsea or Manchester City is not a piece of cake and both the clubs have philosophies and owners that will never suit Guardiola‘s style.

Chelsea have have already sacked a dozen of their coaches since Roman Abramovich arrived at Stamford Bridge and Manchester City though has plenty of potential players they don’t have the same qualities required to play in a “Guardiola’s” side. More importantly, neither side have the philosophy in place of the youth system that Guardiola would like to have in place. On the other hand Bayern have that history, the philosophy the players that have the perfect combination of skill, speed and power. With youth players in a perfect blend with the senior players like Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Gomez, Toni Kroos and Phillipp Lahm.

All that said, where it doesn’t make sense is that, judging by quotes in the media, Guardiola would go to a club where he could prove himself to be the top manager he is, such as Arsenal where there has been a long dry spell without trophies, Chelsea and Manchester City where there has been no stability in years or Manchester  United where one has an extra work of proving himself as the best replacement for Sir  Alex Ferguson. Perhaps Guardiola did choose an easier option.

Bayern are already 12 points clear in the Bundesliga and undoubtedly the biggest club in Germany, despite Dortmund’s recent success. Guardiola could win everything with Bayern as he did with Barcelona.  let’s wait until he takes over Bayern to even remotely dream of trebles and Champions League titles. There is still lots to work on for the club. Pep himself even admitted in his first season as coach that it would be hard to emulate what he did that season.

The realistic thing would be to enjoy. Looking to emulate a once-in-a-generation side that included a once-in-a-lifetime player, even for Pep Guardiola, would be harsh to expect and demand. Guardiola is a great manager, no doubt about it. However one thing is certain, Bayern and Barcelona has made it a little easier for the manager and perhaps he needs to prove himself in leagues where the competitions is much higher and with teams that has average players to be called as a managerial great.

To conclude, here is the video about Pep Guardiola’s system and his way of doing things !!
