Why Real Madrid Would Do Well To Sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane For £200m

Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane has been in the news lately for an alleged transfer possibility which could see him join La Liga champions Real Madrid. Kane is undoubtedly the finest striker in England right now, and with his continuous heroics for Tottenham, it comes as no surprise that he has attracted the attention of Real Madrid. In fact the club are reportedly willing to splash a mammoth sum of £200m, but is the move really necessary?

As far as star man Cristiano Ronaldo is concerned, Zinedine Zidane has been deploying him sparingly in order to extract the best out of the player – and that is a system that has worked well for the player. Zidane is unlikely to change that since Real have nothing to worry about when Ronaldo is on the field.

Truth be told, Real Madrid have uncharacteristically struggled in front of goal for large parts of the new season, with a shockingly poor home record in La Liga. Karim Benzema has been struggling in front of the goal despite leading the line for Real over the last couple of years.

There are doubts over Gareth Bale as well, whose participation in the last two seasons has been minimal since he was sidelined for large parts by a string of injuries. With the gargantuan task of defending the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League title, Zidane is aware of the fact that they need a goal-scoring machine up front.

It goes without saying that Kane will be a valuable addition at the Bernabeu. Moreover, Real Madrid are unlikely to hesitate in shelling out money – no matter how much – for a player who has been identified as their top target. Kane is just 24 years old, meaning he still has several years of top-class football to offer, making him the ideal attacking threat whenever Ronaldo isn’t available.

As far as playing style goes, Kane can also finish crosses and Real Madrid tend to play that way quite often, meaning that he would fit right into the team’s current playing style. The only possible downside could be that the La Liga is very different from the Premier League in terms of pace and spacing. Although Kane has good technique on the ball, he could struggle in Spain since he will have less room to operate.

Having said that, the player is no quitter and should be able to adjust if he spends some time at the club. Thus, if England’s best striker does choose to join Europe’s reigning champions, it will be quite an interesting deal.
