Why Signing Ross Barkley Would Be A Shrewd Move By Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp is making some decent additions to his squad at Anfield as he has already added Mohamed Salah from AS Roma and Dominic Solanke from Chelsea to his squad this summer. He is still searching for a centre-back and a left-back to improve his options for next season but one position he is now desperate to improve is the central midfield.

The Reds lack a genuine CDM in their ranks, with Lucas Leiva the only player equipped to play in this role being expected to quit the club this summer. German star Emre Can and English midfielder Jordan Henderson are the only players capable of playing effectively in this role. So Klopp is looking to add another dimension to his midfield and one player extensively linked with a move to the club is RB Leipzig midfielder, Naby Keita.

Standing as one of the most exciting midfielders in world football at the moment, Keita was in excellent form in the Bundesliga last season but it is understood that he will not be allowed to leave this summer unless Liverpool meet his valuation of around £70m. This is significantly more than their current record transfer and they might be tempted to look elsewhere if a deal is not struck at a favourable price.

There are not many midfielders in Europe who can replicate what Keita can potentially do at Anfield next season but one player who could turn out to be a superstar at Liverpool is English midfielder, Ross Barkley.

Currently out of favour at Everton, Barkley skipped training recently and is looking for a new club this summer. Tottenham Hotspur have kept a close eye on him but are not ready to meet his valuation of £50m this summer. He has just a year left on his contract with the Merseyside outfit and Liverpool should definitely look at him as an option for their midfield.

Though it will be close to impossible for Liverpool to negotiate with their bitter rivals, they might be able to find a gem of a player in Barkley, who can solve a number of problems at Anfield.

The Everton man may not be able to play as the deepest of the midfielders, a role for which Keita is considered, but he can genuinely add some mettle to the midfield, which can help Liverpool strengthen their core.

The 23-year old has been linked with a move to Liverpool recently and as it hard as it might sound for the Liverpool fans, many will know that Barkley could be a super addition to the squad at Anfield. He is tailor-made for the English game and showed glimpses of form late in the previous season, which will genuinely add some creativity and mettle to Liverpool’s midfield.

It might not be the best medium to find their next midfielder, but Liverpool should certainly look at Barkley as an option this summer, especially if they want to avoid spending a fortune on the Bundesliga star.
