Go for it Klopp – Liverpool signing this versatile 20-goal Brazilian is a no-brainer

Anderson Talisca is on the radar of several clubs. The Benfica attacker, who was on loan at Besiktas last season, has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Liverpool. Unsurprisingly, recent reports have suggested that Liverpool are leading the race to sign Talisca in the summer. But the question is do the Reds really need him?

Liverpool already boast of one of the most lethal attacks in Europe as the mercurial trio of Saido Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah terrified oppositions last term. Would signing Talisca really improve Liverpool or is it a transfer the Reds can avoid? Let’s analyse.

The good

Talisca is a versatile attacker who can play across various positions in midfield and can be even deployed as a forward out wide.

Although the Brazilian likes to play as the No.10, functioning just behind a striker, he can also contribute from the wings. Talisca is a direct player with just one objective – to get the ball forward into potentially dangerous areas. The attacker has an eye for goal and also possesses the quality to play a superb final ball.

He managed to score 20 goals and set up seven more in 47 appearances in all competitions for Besiktas last season. Talisca is also a threat in the air and can help his team win aerial duels at both ends of the pitch.

The bad

Talisca has a lot of good qualities but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any flaws in his game. Even though the Brazilian can unlock any defence with his through balls, Talisca isn’t particularly good at passing, especially for a player who plays as a No.10.

An average passing accuracy of 80% over the course of the season shows that Anderson can be casual with his passes at times.

The player can also appear to be lethargic in situations where his team is under pressure and require defensive contributions from him.

The Verdict

Although Talisca loves to play a direct brand of football, which should suit him at Anfield, he won’t be able to add anything extra to what Liverpool already possess up front. It won’t be wise to add a player just for the sake of it unless Jurgen Klopp can land a truly world-class player – which Talisca isn’t at the moment.
