Go For It Christiansen – This Out Of Favour Liverpool Star Would Be A Perfect Replacement For Wood

Danny Ings vs Chris Wood: Can The Liverpool Striker Fill The Gap Left By Wood At Leeds United?

Chris Wood exiting Leeds United came as a major blow for the Championship outfit. They currently stand at 5th place but will need to do a lot better if they are to secure a promotion to the top flight next season.

They are in dire need of a new striker at the moment. Even when Wood was with the club, Leeds only seemed over-reliant on his services. Ever since he completed his move to Burnley, the Whites’ need for quality reinforcements has only been accentuated further.

While plenty of centre-forwards have been linked with a move to the Championship side, a possible move for Liverpool’s Danny Ings has surfaced. The 24-year-old attacker is currently recovering from a knee injury but he is working his way back to full sharpness and fitness.

His Liverpool career so far has been limited due to a string of injuries and this season, he has played just 17 minutes of first-team football, which was in the Carabao Cup defeat to Leicester. Going forward, the chances of Ings getting regular time on the pitch at Liverpool look bleak, with plenty of international stars like Salah, Firmino and Mane ahead of Ings in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order.

While the player is immensely talented, regular game time might be something he may have to forego at the Merseyside club, thus making a move to Leeds United sound quite enticing, since Ings does not lack for talent. He played a key role to help Burnley secure a promotion to the Premier League in the 2013/14 season, and also finished as the top scorer for the club, even though they were relegated the following year.

Chris Wood was brilliant for Leeds until last season

With Wood out of the picture at Leeds, Ings will be presented with a fantastic opportunity to make the role his own. He can be an ideal addition to the team’s attack, with his ability to run with the ball and his shot accuracy.

He may not be a like-for-like replacement for Wood but Ings can still add value. He has a lot of experience as well, making him a solid player to target. It is unsure as to whether Leeds want to sign him on a loan or in a permanent move. Considering the situation though, a loan move could perhaps work in favour of all parties involved.

Leeds cannot risk making a permanent move for a player who has been prone to injuries. On the other hand, Ings may not be too keen on bidding adieu to his Anfield career already. Completing a loan move can help the Championship club assess if Ings is the right solution to their problems up front. For Ings, it can provide him with the perfect stage to clock more minutes so as to improve his performances and possibly launch another attempt at reviving his Liverpool career.
