Newcastle United v Everton Report – Newcastle United Match Report

Newcastle United come from two goals down to beat Everton 3-2 at St. James’ Park to make it five home wins on the bounce in the league.

The Toffees led through Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, but the Geordies came back in the second half with goals from Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez.

Everton led in the 18th minute when Lucas Digne dug out a good cross for Calvert-Lewin to run across his marker and head the ball into the back of the net.

Around the half-hour mark, Jordan Pickford rugby-tackled Rondon in the box to give away a penalty. The only shock was that the referee didn’t give him the red card.

Matt Ritchie stepped up but the England number one made the save from the spot-kick. Newcastle fans were raging because they clearly thought Pickford shouldn’t have been staying on the pitch, and rightly so.

Two minutes later, Andre Gomes did some good work in the Magpies box and delivered a good low ball, only for Martin Dubravka to palm it straight into the path of Richarlison, who couldn’t miss an open net chance.

The Newcastle comeback began in the second half when Perez found Rondon with a beautiful clipped ball. The latter volleyed it home to get his team back in the game with 25 minutes to play.

10 minutes from time, Miguel Almiron had a pop at goal that could only be palmed straight back into the danger area by Pickford and Perez reacted the quickest to tap home the equaliser.

Newcastle exerted pressure and completed the turnaround in the 84th minute when a scrap in the box allowed Rondon to provide an inadvertent assist for Perez.

St. James’ Park went wild and Everton collapsed like nine pins in the second half.

The win takes Rafa Benitez’s men up to 13th in the table, six points away from the relegation zone.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this crazy game:
