Fulham opinion: Should the Cottagers make a move for Todd Kane?
According to reports from the Derby Telegraph, Fulham have entered the race for Chelsea graduate Todd Kane with the Blues reportedly ready to sell. The 25-year-old defender has been told that he has no future at the club and should start looking for a way out immediately.
Derby County, Sheffield United and even Aston Villa are all very interested in Kane and given his performances on loan, that should be no surprise.
While he is contracted to Chelsea, Kane has never played for the club’s senior side, although he does have 50 appearances for the U-23 side. It shows just how much the Blues rate him, but his loan spells across the world have been a boon.
Kane has played not just in the Championship but also in the Eredivisie for FC Groningen over the last few years. This has seen him amass just over 200 career appearances, including nearly a 100 in the Championship alone. You cannot buy that kind of experience and for a club like Fulham, it’s a move that would do them a lot of good.
The Cottagers got relegated after a long season in the Premier League, proving that spending money does not always help. It serves as a warning for the newly promoted sides in Aston Villa, Norwich City and Sheffield United. Fulham can’t be looking backwards.
That means creating a life without a few stars that they do have at their disposal right now. However, even if they do manage to keep their back-line, the Cottagers still have to add a new right-back.
While Cyrus Christie has done well, the 26-year-old cannot be the club’s only option and that is exactly where Todd Kane enters the fray. The 25-year-old is a right-back by trade but has been used all over the field over the course of his career.
He’s even spent time as a left-back, left wing-back, defensive midfielder and a right wing-back. That shows how versatile the Chelsea man is and why a move would be perfect for Fulham.
They need someone like Kane in their lineup and his versatility to play across a number of positions will only serve to help the club on their way back up.

Fulham need reinforcements if they want to survive the Championship once again. It took the Cottagers a long time to get back into the Premier League and they failed to keep their place amongst the top-tier sides.
But, while only adding Todd Kane will not help them get back there, the 25-year-old will certainly be another option to have.
