Another week of Premier League football has gone by, with some interesting results coming through as always. From the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) point of view, this game week had most managers getting points at a higher proportion.
In terms of results, it all started with Leicester smashing 10-man Southampton 9-0 on Friday. Manchester City kept the pressure on Liverpool by beating Aston Villa. But Jurgen Klopp’s men responded with a come back win over Spurs.
Everton capitulated under pressure from Brighton, while Arsenal only managed to draw at home to Crystal Palace despite being two goals up.
Chelsea and Manchester United got decent away wins at Burnley and Norwich City respectively. Newcastle and Wolves played out a 1-1 draw, Sheffield United dug out a vital point at West Ham and Bournemouth played out a goalless draw at bottom-placed Watford.
Below, we take a look at the stars and flops of this game-week from the FPL viewpoint:
Jamie Vardy and Ayoze Perez got hat-tricks for Leicester in their demolishing victory over Southampton. Ben Chilwell scored a goal, assisted one and kept a clean sheet.
Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah scored for their respective teams in the Liverpool-Tottenham game. Sadio Mane won a penalty to get himself into the assist column.
Raheem Sterling continued his good form with a goal against Aston Villa. While Ederson got a clean sheet to boost his tally up.
Christian Pulisic was the surprise hero for Chelsea and many FPL managers with a hat-trick against Burnley. Many people would have him in their team from now on.
Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial missed a penalty each against Norwich, but the Manchester United duo scored a goal each to lead their team to a comfortable win.
Callum Wilson had another blank week where he couldn’t put one past struggling Watford. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette laboured throughout the game against Crystal Palace and never looked like scoring/creating a goal.
Lucas Digne did get an assist, but he scored an own goal to win the game for Brighton and was also involved in a defence that conceded three goals.
Teemu Pukki’s party is definitely over as he shot another blank, this time against Manchester United. It won’t be a surprise to see people removing him from their respective FPL teams.
Jordan Pickford should have done better to save the first Brighton goal. He went on to concede two more in a bad week for him and Everton.
Danny Ings was subbed off half-time as his team got a pummeling. The former Liverpool man’s recent form had many managers bringing him to their team, only to see a disappointing return.
