Two Players Who Might Leave Huddersfield At The End Of The Season

Huddersfield’s remarkable campaign shows no real signs of slowing down and David Wagner’s men have deservedly drawn much praise from fans and media for their performances.

Youngsters like Isaiah Brown and Kasey Palmer will be dreaming of big futures in the Premier League and who knows, maybe they are right. Certainly, they have it ahead of them at 20 years of age. Christopher Schindler has been solid in defence and the goals scored by Elias Kachunga and Nahki Wells have fired Huddersfield to third place.

Another stand-out player with further potential is Australian international Aaron Mooy. The man from Sydney has been a crucial part of Huddersfield’s midfield this season, remaining rock solid in the face of pressure from some fine attacking sides, as well as contributing 3 goals and 5 assists. His parent club Manchester City still see him as a Premier League player and so the prospects of him staying with Huddersfield look slim.

Are these the sort of players to attract big bids in the summer?  Time will tell. However, there are a couple of obvious players who can fill holes in clubs that are bigger than Huddersfield.

Tommy Smith

Tommy Smith was recently named in the EFL Championship Team of the Year. Smith has played his part in what has been a terrific defensive effort from the Terriers this season. However, it’s his astonishing record of 4 goals and 7 assists in the Championship which makes him so valuable. 7 assists from a right-back is a brilliant result; make no mistake.

Attacking full-backs are increasingly in demand in the modern game. So, out of nowhere, Smith could find himself the subject of a lot of Premier League interest over the summer. Even if he fails to land a move to the Promised Land, next season’s biggest Championship clubs such as Aston Villa and Leeds United would be willing to sign the player if possible.

Philip Billing

The surprise one to make a move may be the young midfielder, Philip Billing. At just 20, someone would be taking a slight risk in signing him. However, he is a major part in the centre of Huddersfield midfield and has tons of potential.  Billing is not the finished article but is just the type of player who can attract interest from clubs around the country.

Billing’s all-round play has been excellent this term when he has had the chance and it would come as no surprise if he gets bigger contract offers from elsewhere after the season closes. Unless Huddersfield make it to the top division, it would be difficult for them to hold on to their players.
