Crystal Palace signing this red-hot 12-goal star would be absolutely smart

Why Karlan Grant would be a fantastic signing for Crystal Palace

In November 2019, the South London Press had claimed that Crystal Palace sporting director, Dougie Freedman, watched Huddersfield Town striker, Karlan Grant.

Karlan Grant, 22, has been in excellent form for Huddersfield Town this season, bagging 12 goals and four assists in 26 Championship games so far. He has already showcased his top-flight credentials, having scored four goals in 13 appearances after joining from Charlton Athletic midway through last season.

With the 22-year-old impressing for the Terriers, Crystal Palace must reignite their interest this month.

The Eagles have managed to surge to a decent position in the league after a solid first half of the 2019/20 campaign. Despite the South Londoners sitting 9th in the table, they have certain problems to address. One of them is the attack, with Roy Hodgson’s men scoring just 19 goals in 21 games.

Jordan Ayew is Palace’s top scorer with five goals but he has enjoyed limited support from his fellow forwards, including Wilfried Zaha, who has been royally inconsistent this season.

Christian Benteke has struggled with form and injuries over the last couple of seasons and he has looked completely off the pace this term. With that in mind, Roy Hodgson should prioritise signing a new striker and Karlan Grant would be a smart fit at Selhurst Park.

Despite Huddersfield Town having a bad season, Grant has been promising throughout the campaign. He has been scoring goals at a consistent rate, being unplayable at times in the Championship.

The English striker’s finishing skills combined with his work ethic has caused all sorts of troubles to several Championship defenders.

The 22-year-old would not only add quality to Palace’s attacking ranks but also some much-needed depth to the squad. His ability to nestle through tight spaces could make him an ideal component for the Eagles in the final third.

Moreover, Grant’s movement could make the Eagles much more dangerous on the break, thus tuning in well with Hodgson’s counter-attacking style of play. In the video below, one could see how lethal and composed Grant is.

Verdict

Grant showed last season that he has the qualities to thrive in the Premier League. With proper support and quality players around him, the 22-year-old can score goals at an unbelievable rate. All in all, Crystal Palace must go all out for his signature to solve their goalscoring woes.
