Forget Henderson – Why This Super English Kid Can Be The “Next Gerrard” For Liverpool

Share

The season is still some way from getting over and already the transfer rumours have started. It would be a thing to watch out for as to what Liverpool do in the transfer market with their additional revenue from the Champions League and the possibility of winning the league after a long time.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley Liverpool Rumour – should this move happen?

But additional revenue does not necessarily mean that it is a good thing for the club with there being a tendency to spend more on players who could be got for a lot less. There have been numerous rumours linking Everton player Ross Barkley with a potential move to Liverpool for £38 million in the summer. While we state clearly that Barkley is one of the most exciting talents around and have a very bright future, but that kind of money of an inexperienced player is just outrageous.

Ross Barkley Stats

Liverpool were heavily criticised a couple of seasons back when they spent a huge amount of money for a young talented striker from Newcastle United named Andy Carroll and in the process made him one of the most talked about player in the football world. That added to the burden and Carroll never lived upto his expectations, proving to be a major failure for a person costing that much.

That had a huge impact on the club coffers and the club could not do too well in the succeeding transfer windows. Also Carroll had to leave the club on loan as soon as a new manager came to the club and ultimately he was sold a season alter for less than half his fees.

Liverpool would definitely not want a repetition of this and thus have to be careful while making the moves for Barkley. Now the main thing is that do Liverpool really need a player like Barkley or do they already have a similar player like Coutinho for that same role?

Even though Coutinho has not been in the best of his form till now, he has done enough to justify a spot in Brendan Rodger’s team for next season and his late goal against Manchester City in the previous match could be extremely vital, come the end of the season. Rodgers has made a lot of experimentations with his side and used his players at different positions in the pitch, which has at times made it difficult for them to get used to a certain playing style.

In spite of that, Coutinho has created 53 chances in total and been one of the primary players in Liverpool going forward. At 21, Cotinho is just a year older than Barkley and hence have scopes of further improvement in years to come. In the next couple of seasons, Coutinho has the capability and the talent to be one of the midfielders of the Premier League and guide his team to glory.

Judging the likes of Coutinho and Raheem Sterling and with Jordan Ibe and Suso to play a certain role for the club from next season, it can be said that Liverpool may do without spending as much as £38 million for Barkley and could look to use the money to strengthen other positions of the pitch, but  the Everton man is a super talent and probably have the potential to be the “Next Gerrard” for the red side of the Merseyside. Who would say no to him? If not for Liverpool, other top clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea will be queing up for his signature.

Verdict: Sign him up Rodgers!
