Forget Delph: Pep Guardiola Could Look To Sign Any Of These 3 Attacking Full-backs

Three Attacking Left-Backs Pep Guardiola Should Consider Bringing To Manchester City

Manchester City are sky-rocketing in terms of form and performances this season. They have won 16 consecutive games in the Premier League and if they continue like this, Pep Guardiola’s men could even remain unbeaten for the season.

While their team looks near-perfect, the club could use reinforcements in the defence – particularly in the left-back area. They bought Benjamin Mendy over the summer but the player succumbed to a long-term injury and will be out of the side for a while. Fabian Delph has stepped in and is essaying the role with surprising guile and solidity but if he gets injured, the manager will be stripped of options.

Hence, the club could consider signing a new left-back, however, it may not happen in January itself but it could happen next summer. The road will only get tougher here on for City and to seek reinforcements in advance could minimize their challenges to an extent. With that in mind, here are 3 attacking left-backs City could target.

Faouzi Ghoulam – Napoli

Ghoulam is currently sidelined having picked up an injury in a Champions League clash but he would fit right into City’s current system.

Napoli play an attacking brand of football much like the English club and Ghoulam’s responsibilities are similar to those of Delph’s. If the switch were to happen, the Algerian would slot in comfortably since both teams deploy a high-octane attacking unit.

However, he did recently extend his deal with the Italian club till 2022 and that could force City to shell out some extra money but when has price ever been a problem for the club?

Jose Gaya – Valencia

Gaya is a solid, attacking left-back and his displays have attracted attention from quite a number of top clubs across Europe. The upcoming transfer window will be crucial if City are to target him but he is a player Guardiola should definitely consider.

One look at his performances and it is easy to deduce that he thrives in an attacking environment. Gaya boasts of pace and skill, making him effective in link-up play. Given the speed Leroy Sane plays with, Gaya could fit right in to patrol the left flank.

Kieran Tierney – Celtic

One of Celtic’s brightest stars, Tierney has been earning rave reviews for his performances this season.

Tierney may be only 20 years of age but the player’s skills make him seem mature enough to play alongside City’s finest. He has already made more than 50 appearances for the Scottish club and is an out-and-out attack-minded player, making him ideal for the type of football brand Guardiola is building at City.
