Fletcher Out, Rhodes And Hooper To Start – Strongest 4-4-2 Sheffield Wednesday Line-Up To Face Ipswich Town

Predicted Sheffield Wednesday Line-up To Face Ipswich Town In EFL Championship

Sheffield Wednesday head to Portman Road on Wednesday evening looking for a crucial away victory, though they face a stern test against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town.

Carlos Carvalhal faces no new injury worries after his side’s 0-0 draw at the weekend, though Fernando Forestieri’s knee operation keeps him out until mid-December.

The Portuguese coach is liable to stick to his preferred 4-4-2 formation for this game, with Gary Hooper likely to retain his place up front with Jordan Rhodes despite being replaced by Fletcher late on against Bristol City.

Formation: 4-4-2

Manager: Carlos Carvalhal

GK – Keiran Westwood

The former Coventry and Sunderland man remains in solid form between the sticks and should start once again.  Westwood played in all but one of the Owls’ Championship matches last season.

RB – Jack Hunt

Like Luke Ayling at Leeds, Hunt is a solid and reliable Championship right-back who arguably could be ready now for Premier League football.

Tom Lees

CB – Tom Lees

Has been scouted by numerous Premier League sides in the last two seasons and should retain his place at the back.

CB – Glenn Loovens

A major reason his side looked booked for playoff football for most of last season. They have started slightly less well this time around though.

LB – Morgan Fox

The ex-Charlton Athletic defender is going nicely at left-back and should most likely start once more in this position.

RW – Ross Wallace

The Scotsman has been going along consistently for years and retains all of his quality, if not quite all of his pace. A striker’s dream in this division.

Barry Bannan

CM – Kieran Lee

May replace Butterfield from the start here and rekindle a successful midfield partnership with Barry Bannan.

CM – Barry Bannan

Did very well with Lee last season in this position and may well get the chance to show here as to why they were so effective.

LW – Adam Reach

Much like Wallace on the other side, Reach may not be spectacular at this level but provides plenty of quality in his final ball, making him a reliable source for the front two.

Jordan Rhodes

ST – Jordan Rhodes

It seems Rhodes has (yet again) found his level in the Championship and even though he has been the subject of much Premier League interest and a couple of moves in the past, this is where he can make a difference. He’ll probably be partnered with Hooper again.

ST – Gary Hooper

The former Celtic man has got the nod over Steven Fletcher and will probably start up top once again.
