Fantastic Pereyra, Disappointing Deulofeu – The best and the worst rated Watford players vs Newcastle

Full Time: Watford 2-1 Newcastle United

Newcastle succumbed to their third loss in a row, as what seems like an early holiday for the Magpies, continues. It was a tale of two halves at Vicarage Road as Watford ran rampant in the first 45 minutes. They could’ve been 3 or 4 up if it were not for Dubravka’s heroics.

Newcastle fought back in the second half but were unlucky not to come away with a point.

Watford Player Ratings

Orestis Karnezis – 6/10

The Watford keeper did not have the best of games but did make one great save to keep his side ahead and prevent Kabasele from scoring an own goal.

Jose Holebas – 7.5/10

The right-back had an excellent game today. He provided good width going forward and was also solid in defence.

Christian Kabasele – 7.5/10

The centre-back looked pretty comfortable, despite almost putting the ball into his own net at one point. He won a lot of defensive duels and tackled well.

Craig Cathcart – 7/10

Cathcart formed a good partnership with Kabasele at the back today and wasn’t threatened much.

Daryl Janmaat – 6/10

Janmaat has had a great season for Watford but did not have his best game today. Got a needless yellow card and never really looked comfortable.

Roberto Pereyra – 8.5/10

Pereyra had a fantastic game today and looked dangerous whenever he got the ball. Got a goal and an assist.

Etienne Capoue – 7/10

Played well in the midfield and broke up the opposition’s play well.

Abdoulaye Doucoure– 7.5/10

The physical midfielder was excellent for his team. He was everywhere and got a good assist as well.

Will Hughes – 6.5/10

A strange position for Hughes on the right-hand side of the midfield. He wasn’t at his best and a lot of his passes went astray.

Troy Deeney – 6/10

A very average performance from the striker and he will be very disappointed to have had his penalty saved.

Andre Gray – 7.5/10

Scored a good goal for his team and will look to take his performance into next season.

Substitutes

Gerard Deulofeu – 5.5/10

Replaced Pereyra in the 59th minute but did not have a good game at all.

Adrian Mariappa – 6.5/10

Came on to replace Troy Deeney early in the second half to shore up the Watford defence. Helped repel the Newcastle attacks well.

Richarlison – 6/10

Came on late in the second half and looked lazy in the attack.
