Full Time: Liverpool 0-0 West Bromwich Albion

Liverpool put up a lacklustre display to settle for a 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion last night. They failed to break down a resilient Baggies side and ended up dropping points in what was a fairly easy chance to pick up 3 points. Emre Can was quite poor in the midfield but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance was quite encouraging. Nothing much happened in the game, to be honest, but let’s take a look at how the Liverpool players fared.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Loris Karius – 7.5/10

Karius made some important saves especially in the second half and was greatly responsible for helping them keep West Brom at bay.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8.5/10

The youngster seemed like the only one in the Reds team who wanted to win the game. He patrolled the right-hand side quite well and seemed like a threat. He even fed the ball twice to Mohamed Salah but the Egyptian failed to capitalise.

Dejan Lovren – 7/10

After months of frustration aimed at him, Lovren finally seems to be improving by leaps and bounds. He was responsible for winning some headers and kept the opponents away from the net.

Ragnar Klavan – 6.5/10

Klavan used the ball well to protect the goal and dealt admirably with Rondon.

Andy Robertson – 6/10

Robertson was decent enough on both fronts but his style, in general, lacked fluidity, which was glaringly obvious in a humdrum game.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10

Wijnaldum showed no creativity or penetration and put in a highly disappointing performance. He struggled to retain possession and was just poor overall.

Emre Can – 4/10

It was a rather forgettable night for the player. He got booked and was slow while going forward. Much like Wijnaldum, even Can failed to keep hold of possession and was a major let-down.

Philippe Coutinho – 6.5/10

There was very little Coutinho could do when everybody around him seemed unsure of what to do. He boasted of better control in the second half but it was too late for him to do anything worthwhile then.

Sadio Mane – 5/10

Mane was fast as usual but he was unnecessarily sloppy and seemed rusty on the ball in general.

Mohamed Salah – 6/10

Salah did try to make things happen initially but signs of exhaustion did show up on the winger’s face. As the minutes ticked by, so did Salah’s energy.

Roberto Firmino – 6.5/10

Firmino missed a sublime chance to score a goal but besides that, his link-up play was quite decent. However, this is still far from his best.

Subs:

Dominic Solanke – 7/10

The youngster added some much-needed dimension to Liverpool’s attack but his goal was disallowed for handball.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6/10

He was quite effective with his passing but that did not produce results.

Joe Gomez – N/A

The youngster came on too late to make an impact.
