Fan Favourite Liverpool Star Determined To Play For The Club Very Soon

Jon Flanagan is looking forward to getting back into the starting eleven at Liverpool after he completes his loan spell at Burnley.

The 23 year old has been in and out of the Liverpool side due to his injury problems that have hampered his journey to being fully fit, making just eight appearances for the Merseyside outfit in the last two seasons.

Jurgen Klopp sent Flanagan to Turf-Moor to get more game time in the left-back role. The 23-year-old defender has gone on to make three appearances for the Clarets in the Premier League and he’s now set his sights on regaining his spot at Anfield.

Flanagan’s injury tortures made him lose his place in the Liverpool starting eleven and allowed the likes of Nathaniel Clyne and James Milner to fill in the void at the full-back position

Flanagan did not appear in the win against his parent club but admitted that the result was somewhat bittersweet.

‘I just want to play regular football and get back into the routine I was in two years ago,’ Flanagan told the Daily Mail (via Liverpoolecho)

“I never doubted for one second I’d be back, I’m mentally tough.” He said. “We’ll see where it goes from there, and hopefully get back to Liverpool and a starting place. My ideal season? Burnley to qualify for the Europa League and Liverpool to win the League.”

“Every week I want Liverpool to win – my dad used to take me home and away, my idols were Stevie G, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher – but this is my club now. Getting the three points against them was a good day.” Said the English full back

Burnley currently have problems when they need results away from home and Flanagan is keen on working hard for his team to get a spot in Jurgen Klopps’s Reds next season. At home, Sean Dyches’ men have beaten the likes of Watford, Everton and they inflicted the only loss in Liverpool’s campaign, but it’s the away games that have been a worry.

Flanagan is set to spend the remainder of the season at Burnley and revealed that fellow scouser Joey Barton was a big influence on his decision.

“I was on holiday with him so I was able to ask him about Burnley. We spoke again later and it was all good. He said I couldn’t go wrong here,” Flanagan said.

“I know Burnley aren’t going to be challenging for the league title, but I’ve come here to play games, get my fitness levels back up and hopefully help keep Burnley in the Premier League.

“I think my mind was already made up really, but getting that advice pushed me even more towards joining them, and I’m enjoying it.”
