The Exit Is That Way – 2 Players Pochettino Should Sell In The January Window

After a sizzling start to the Premier League campaign this season, Tottenham Hotspur have slowly lost their way and have found it hard to stitch victories together in the last few weeks. Though they remain a strong defensive side, they have lost a bit of momentum in the final third and have found goals hard to come by this season, which has in turn affected their chances at the top of the table. Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of the club, is looking to add a few players to the squad in January and will hope that the additions and push his side into the top 4. But at the same time, he will also be looking to off-load few players to reduce the burden on the club. Though the Spurs do not have too many weak links in the side, they do have a few players who do not really fit into Pochettino’s style. With the transfer window not too far away, here are two players who the Spurs should get rid of in January:

Tom Carroll:

One of the many young midfielders that are doing wonders at the White Hart Lane this season, Tom Carroll, has been far from the first team throughout the season. He is a potential star with loads of ability under his belt but he has just not been able to break into the starting XI for too long. He was linked with an exit even in January and it was a surprise that he stayed at the club. But with the Spurs knocked out of the Europa League, he has no chances of getting a start at the club and he is better off looking at options away from London. The likes of Harry Winks and Josh Onomah, have surpassed him in the pecking order for Pochettino leaving Carroll and the club with very few choice. Surely, the Spurs can’t keep him at the club for the rest of the season without playing him regularly.

Kieran Trippier:

The 26-year old English defender has been at the club for more than a season now but has made just 6 starts in the Premier League. A right back by trait, he is a backup to the first choice in Kyle Walker and is not expected to start regularly for the side. At 26, he needs regular game time under his belt to realise his potential which he will not get at the club unless there is an injury to Walker. This leaves him with just one option of leaving the squad. He is also not that well suited Pochettino’s intense system at the club while his lack of energy and pace on the field can make him a liability at times. He has just 2 PL appearances this season and it might be time for Pochettino to let him go and spend on a backup that he can trust.
