Exit Is That Way – 2 Deadwoods Liverpool Should Sell In January

Share

Having won his first ever Merseyside derby away from home, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be happy with his team’s performances this season and will hope that they can stay away from debacles like against Burnley and Bournemouth this season. The Reds showed a slight weakness in games like that and the manager will know that he might have to dive into the transfer market for a few additions. Liverpool have been linked with a number of top class players in the recent past and if Klopp decides to splash the cash, he may also be looking to let go a few players from the current squad. Though Liverpool do not have a really big squad at their disposal, Klopp will want to reduce the burden on the club by letting players who don’t fit his style leave the club. With the January transfer window fast approaching, here are 2 players who Klopp might sell in January:

  1. Mamadou Sakho:

The French defender has fallen down to a role in the U23 side from being the first choice in the senior side in less than a year. Late last season, Sakho was banned by the UEFA for the use of an illegal substance, a claim which was later revoked. That saga saw the 26-year old miss the Europa League final and the EURO16 final earlier this season and it was around that time that his career went down the slope. His antics on Liverpool’s pre-season tour saw Klopp freeze him out of the first team and the manager is yet to offer him a place even in the match day squad this season. He has no real place at the club anymore and with the likes of West Bromwich Albion and Lille interested in his signature it might be time for Liverpool to let him go and for Sakho to accept that his career at Anfield is over. He is potentially a world class player but having lost the trust of the manager, it is better for him to steer away from the Merseyside.

2. Adam Bogdan:

Though it is not easy to offload an injured player in the middle of rehab, Liverpool would love to search for potential suitors for the Hungary international Adam Bogdan. The 29-year old was given a few chances in the previous seasons but he showed nerves playing at the biggest stage and had no chance whatsoever to get back into the first team. He secured a loan deal away from the club in the summer but he suffered a season-ending knee injury which will keep him out for another 5 months. He has been in decent form playing for Wigan Athletic and though he was supposed to stay at the club till the end of the season, his injury saw him return to the Merseyside. He is not a player that Klopp wants to use in the first team and it might be the right time for the Reds to off loan him in January, even if it is on a cut-price deal.
