Full Time: Malaga 0-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid lifted the Spanish La Liga crown for the 33rd time when they defeated Malaga 2-0 on the final day at the La Rosaleda stadium on Sunday.

Zinedine Zidane’s men needed just a point to seal the title triumph and Cristiano Ronaldo did not take long to put his team in the driver’s seat, scoring as early as the 2nd minute. Karim Benzema added a second, 10 minutes into the second period and Madrid survived a few late threats from the home side to be crowned Champions.

Madrid ended their five-year wait in the process, having last won the La Liga title back in the 2011/12 season under Jose Mourinho. Here’s how the Real Madrid players performed against Malaga:

Real Madrid Player Ratings

Keylor Navas – 8.5/10

Made save after save to keep Malaga out, especially late in the game. It was his first clean sheet in 16 La Liga games and came on the night when his team needed it the most.

Danilo – 8/10

Probably one of his best displays for Madrid. Ran up and down the pitch all night. Made several key blocks and tackles.

Raphael Varane – 7/10

Was given a lot to think about by Sandro, but the Frenchman did his bit to keep the home side out. Was involved in the second goal.

Sergio Ramos – 7/10

The captain had a couple of nervy moment but managed to hold on. Was a nuisance in the opposition box. Pivotal for the second goal.

Marcelo – 7/10

Not as adventurous as he usually is. Dealt well with the lively Keko. On rare occasions he ventured forward and caused the Malaga defence some problems.

Casemiro – 7/10

Put his team under serious pressure with a poor pass in the second period. Other than that blip, it was a solid effort from the Brazilian.

Luka Modric – 8/10

Controlled the midfield brilliantly, popping up everywhere to win the ball and start attacks for his team. Another important contribution.

Toni Kroos – 7.5/10

Excellent distribution, dangerous set-piece deliveries and a solid base in the middle of the park. The German had another good game.

Isco – 8/10

Provided the assist for Ronaldo’s opener with an inch-perfect ball. Always seemed to cause problems when he was on the ball.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 8/10

Opened the scoring in the 2nd minute and had a shot saved by Carlos Kameni. The Portuguese was full of running on the day, helping his team out defensively and offering a leader’s presence on the pitch.

Karim Benzema – 7/10

Showed good awareness to bundle home the second goal after Ramos’ effort was saved. Worked hard for the team.

Substitutes

James Rodriguez – 6/10

Replaced Isco for the last 25 minutes. Spent most of his team helping the defence.

Mateo Kovacic – 6/10

Came on along with Rodriguez as a double swap to replace Casemiro. Made a couple of strong tackles.

Alvaro Morata – 6/10

Replaced Benzema in the 73rd minute. Forced a save from Kameni.
