Everton hoping to end their Liverpool hoodoo

Share

Liverpool visit Goodison Park on Saturday aiming to continue their recent dominance over local rivals Everton.

The Reds have gone 16 games without defeat against Everton – a run that stretches back almost eight years.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head into the fixture third in the Premier League, 10 points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea with six games to play.

Wednesday’s put them in pole position to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, but Klopp will be eager to ensure his players are fully-focused on the derby clash.

Everton are priced at 29/10 to win the game, with Liverpool on offer at 10/11 and the draw available at 13/5, but check out this before wagering on the outcome.

Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Mohamed Salah after the league’s top scorer pulled up with a groin problem against City.

Joel Matip is out for the remainder of the season with a thigh injury, meaning Dejan Lovren is likely to deputise again after an impressive performance on Wednesday.

Emre Can (back) is doubtful, while have also been depleted by Adam Lallana’s hamstring injury. Nathaniel Clyne continues to work on his fitness after a long spell on the sidelines.

Everton’s Eliaquim Mangala, Gylfi Sigurdsson and James McCarthy are all long-term absentees, while Idrissa Gueye is likely to miss out.

However, defender Ashley Williams is available after serving a three-match suspension following his red card against Burnley last month.

Liverpool have scored 75 goals in 32 Premier League matches this season and they can be backed at 14/5 to grab three or more goals this weekend.

It is worth noting that Liverpool have scored just twice on their last three visits to Goodison Park and the home side are likely to try and keep things tight once again.

A 1-0 win for the away side is on offer at 7/1, while the Toffees are priced at 11/1 to triumph by a single goal.

With doubts over Salah’s fitness it may pay to look elsewhere for possible Liverpool scorers. Roberto Firmino has also been in excellent form this season and he could be worth an interest at 9/5 to add to his tally this weekend.

Everton’s last victory over Liverpool was a 2-0 success back in 2010 and a repeat of that scoreline is available at 20/1.

Liverpool’s exertions against City in midweek could catch up with them in an intense Merseyside derby and backing a 1-1 result at odds of 6/1 could be the way to play this one.
