Enough is enough: Emery has to offload these 2 average Gunners stars to make room for quality signings

2 players that are taking up space at Arsenal and need to be cleared out

Unai Emery has turned Arsenal’s fortunes around in lightning quick time – maybe even faster than most Gunners fans would have expected him to. But there is still a lot of work and development to be completed at The Emirates before they can consider putting up a title challenge.

The success they have found so far this season could be credited to the summer signings that Emery and his team have made. With Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, Emery has solidified what was an extremely flimsy looking midfield which just broke down under any stress at all over the course of the last 2 seasons.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also brought in for the striker’s role in January and he already seems to have formed a great partnership with former Lyon star Alexandre Lacazette.

While all this is positive for Arsenal, there are a couple of players in this Arsenal squad who are increasing the wage bill but not living up to the quality that was once promised. Let’s take a look at 2 players who need to be offloaded by Emery at the earliest possible opportunity.

Danny Welbeck

English international Danny Welbeck hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot at Arsenal ever since he joined the Gunners from Manchester United in July 2014.

Since then, Danny has made 126 appearances for the Gunners and has scored only 32 times. This is partly because he has spent an extremely huge amount of time out injured.

He notched up 10 goals in all competitions last season, which is his best in an Arsenal shirt and that typifies why this player just isn’t suited for a big club like Arsenal.

He would be better off at a smaller Premier League side where the onus would be on him to get the goals rather than having to play second fiddle yet again.

Alex Iwobi

Iwobi is another player who has looked extremely inconsistent for Arsenal this term. Often deployed on the left flank, he is pacy and tricky on the ball but is often extremely careless in possession. He tries to wriggle his way past challenges too often and ends up hitting the turf and giving the ball away.

Since getting promoted to the first-team from the Arsenal academy, he has featured in a total of 120 games for the first-team and has still only contributed 11 goals.

A top quality replacement on the left flank would make this Arsenal side a force to reckon with as both the players Emery has tried to slot in there this season have looked shoddy, inconsistent and hence, average at best.
