Why This English Star Will Be A Vital Cog In Klopp’s Plan At Liverpool Next Season

Share

Danny Ings joined Liverpool last season after a very successful season at Burnley. A lot was expected of him when Jurgen Klopp took over, but in his first training session under the German, he jarred his knee and was sidelined for 6 months. It came as a major setback for Ings after a promising start to his Liverpool career where he scored 3 goals in 8 appearances. But Ings recovered remarkably well and returned to full training before the end of the season. Jurgen Klopp had once said, “If he (Ings) is as good a player as he is a person, then we are looking forward to seeing him on the pitch.”

Danny Ings had a very good season for Burnley before he made a move to Liverpool. At Liverpool, Ings showed what he is capable of before an ACL injury that brought an end to his season. Next season though, Danny Ings will be a vital man for Jurgen Klopp as he is known for his versatility and Jurgen Klopp can play him at various positions.

In Jurgen Klopp’s high pressing game, a lot depends on the way the wide players defend. Ings played 2 games in the flanks-against West Ham United and Manchester United and showed his ability. Ings’ pace and defensive contributions could see him suit the wide role. Ings can also play as a second striker. Klopp did use Firmino as a second striker in a few matches and therefore, Ings will have to fight hard for the position. Also, Ings can play as a lone centre forward under Klopp. The rise of Origi under Klopp has shown that if a striker has pace and presses well, he will be a hit at Anfield. Ings has the pace and also showed in his one off appearance in 2016 that he can press well. He can be the Mr. Variety for Klopp and will be vital in Liverpool’s attacking half.

Gonzalo Higuain has expressed his desire to play for Liverpool, but the Merseyside club hasn’t made any offer yet. If Liverpool do not complete the signing of Higuain, Ings can be a very good option for the team. Liverpool had problems in the striking area last season, but with Ings getting fit and Sturridge also in good form; Liverpool will have a better time next season. If Ings can reproduce the sort of performances he give at Burnley, Liverpool’s top 4 challenge will get a boost. Liverpool need a 20-goal-a-season striker and Ings has shown glimpses of that. Ings’ style of play also suits that of Klopp’s and he will be a very vital player next season for Klopp.
