Predicted Burnley Line-up To Face Manchester United In The Premier League
Sean Dyche’s Burnley were pegged back a bit in the previous round as they were thrashed by Tottenham Hotspur, at Turf Moor, to end a decent run of results for the Clarets. They dropped to the 7th place in the points table after that loss but have some leeway over Leicester City, who are in the 8th place.
However, there is a chance that it might reduce this weekend, as they travel to Old Trafford, to face a Manchester United side, fresh from a draw against Leicester City. Dyche’s side have been hard to beat and will be against this Tuesday but Jose Mourinho cannot drop any more points and will go for the kill. Here is the predicted lineup Burnley might play, for this tie:
Team News
Long-term absentees James Tarkowski, Tom Heaton, Stephen Ward and Robby Brady are all ruled out for a long period. Chris Wood, who picked up an injury at the weekend and Dean Marney, are both doubtful for this tie.
Formation: 4-4-2
GK – Nick Pope
Easily one of the in-form shot-stoppers in the league, Pope will have a tough time, playing one of the most productive attacks in the league.
RB – Phil Bardsley
Was not at his best against a rampant Spurs side and will once against find it tough against the likes of Rashford and Martial on the right flank.
CB – Ben Mee
In the absence of Tarkowski, Mee is now the senior CB for Burnley and he will have to marshal his troops at the back, to maintain their shape through the game.
CB – Kevin Long
Up against Romelu Lukaku, just days after being tormented by Harry Kane, Kevin Long is not having the best times, having replaced Trakowski in the first team.
LB – Charlie Taylor
With Ward also unavailable for this game, Taylor, who has done well at the back for Burnley, is expected to start at left-back.
RM – Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson
Having cemented his place in the first team on the right side of the midfield, Guðmundsson will have to help out Bardsley at the back and will also have to initiate counters on the wing, and will have a huge role to play in this game.
CM – Steven Defour
Arguably Burnley’s best midfielder, Defour will have his work cut out, keeping a close eye on French playmaker Paul Pogba.
CM – Jack Cork
After a disastrous outing against Pochettino’s men, Cork will have to step it up, against a Manchester United side, desperate for a win.
LM – Scott Arfield
Another player who struggled against Spurs, Arfield will be up against an in-form Juan Mata on the wing and might have more to do at the back than at the other end.
CAM – Jeff Hendrick
Though not at his best in recent games, Hendrick adds a different dimension to the game and could be the danger man for United.
ST – Ashley Barnes
With Wood out injured, Barnes is expected to lead the line for Burnley at Old Trafford, with Sam Vokes as his backup.
