Drogba May Join Liverpool – Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers regrets, after failing to sign a striker before the deadline day. After loaning out Andy Carroll to West Ham, Liverpool are left only with Suarez up front.  Though Borini is available as an option, Rodgers believes that he may still need another attacking player in the line-up and former Chelsea star Drogba is the preferred choice of the manager.

Rodgers accepts interest in Drogba

Liverpool, who are currently lying third from bottom after three games, including a disappointing loss to Arsenal on Sunday’s home game. The Reds kept creating chances and kept the ball at their feet for most part of the game. It was their attack which did not look sharp as only Raheem Sterling came close when he hit the woodwork at the end of the first half. New signing Borini did not impress as he gave away the ball far too easily. The manager was short of options for a substitution and decided to bring in Downing instead of Borini, who did not have any impact to the game.

The club also lost out to Tottenham in attempts to sign U.S. forward Clint Dempsey on Friday’s deadline day.

Rumors also linked Owen, a former Liverpool player, with a return to Anfield. Owen is currently a free agent after being released by Manchester United and Drogba’s future at Shanghai Shenhua is uncertain because of the Chinese club’s reported financial problems.

Asked if he’d be interested in either striker, Rodgers said Sunday:

“I can’t say no. Any player I believe can improve the squad, I will look at.”
