Done Deal: Manchester United Officially Confirm Appointment After Weeks Of Speculation

Manchester United have appointed their former midfielder Nicky Butt as the club’s head of the academy. The deal was confirmed by the Old Trafford boss Ed Woodward in the ManUtd.com.

‘I am delighted that Nicky has accepted the role of Head of Academy,’ Ed Woodward

Having come up himself from United’s youth academy and turning into one of the key players during his time, Nicky Butt is aware of the traditions and heritage of United. This is also one of the main reason for his appointment as the head of the academy.

According to Ed Woodward butt will be able to prevail the clubs heritage and traditions and will be able to ensure that it passes on to the new players that come through the academy and become the future of the club.

‘Nicky has the traditions and heritage of this Club in his blood and he is the natural choice to ensure that, in modernising the way the Academy operates and shaping the new investment we are making, it retains the values and the focus that it has always had.’

The 41 year old has coached the reserve team and the Under-19 team since he got back in touch with United in 2012. He was also an assistant to manager Ryan Giggs at the end of 2013-2014 season.
