It is a deal done. Liverpool have confirmed that England international Raheem Sterling has joined former Premier League giants Manchester City, according to the club’s official site. The superstar winger did not have the best of seasons last year at Anfield and had some differences with manager Brendan Rodgers due to the different positions he was played at.
After continuous talks to retain the 20-year old attacker’s contract, the Reds management have finally accepted Manchester Citys’ whopping £49m bid. Sterling made a total of 129 appearances during his time with the Merseyside outfit, scoring 23 goals since making his first team debut in 2012.
Though Rodgers and many of his team-mates did not want the superstar winger to leave, the club’s failure to retain a Champions League spot and yet another trophy-less season forced the attacker to make the switch to Manchester.
The Englishman would be a huge signing for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, amidst all the interest from several European giants who were said to be interested in acquiring his services previously.
