According to a report in the Metro, Arsenal are looking to offer Calum Chambers as one of their 3 players in a deal which might see Wilfried Zaha go the other way to North London. Chambers was signed by Arsene Wenger in the 2014-15 season from Southampton’s famed academy.
Chambers was used by Wenger in various roles as a right-back, a centre-back and a central defensive defender. Chambers has gone on loan to the likes of Middlesbrough and Fulham. Last season at Fulham, Chambers was one of the best players for the Cottagers but they were unfortunately relegated.
Chambers is a physical specimen and has a lot of aggression about him. He can also play out from the back, which is why he often plays in midfield. Palace could use a player like Chambers as he could play in so many positions. Palace have already lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Chambers could deputise in that position.
Palace also have two very old starting centre-backs in Mamadou Sakho and James Tomkins. Scott Dann is the third option and he’s not getting any younger either. Chambers would definitely add a lot energy and aggression to that backline and would be an ideal backup or starter to help compliment the more experienced centre-backs.
It’s also important that Luca Milevojevic gets a bit of break as the Eagles have become far too reliant on the Serbian to not just hold that midfield but also depend on his penalties and long-range shots. Chambers is still only 24 and has his best years ahead of him.
He’s also a full England international, having won 3 caps with the national side. Chambers might’ve felt that he’s yet to hit his full potential and will be hoping he can reignite some of that this coming season. Roy Hodgson has led the side admirably since taking over from Frank De Boer.
Palace have a very good counter-attacking system in a traditionally rigid 4-4-2 formation which has seen them upset some of the big teams in the last two seasons.

Hodgson has massively improved some young players at Palace in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Wilfred Zaha and Chambers would be right in thinking that Hodgson can do the same for him.
Getting a player like Chambers into the team is always handy and he’s a player who needs to play Premier League football.
