Criticism Is Breaking The Man – A Glimpse Into The Soul Of Arsenal’s Le Professeur

Where has our Arsenal gone ? is the latest protest group against Arsenal board protesting against various issues concerning from the lack of money invested in players to season tickets. And in recent weeks Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been on the receiving end of some boos from their away fans and especially after the draw at Villa park last week which saw the Gunners rooted to 6th spot in the table behind Everton. This season has been the worst start to the season for Arsenal in the 20-year history of the Premier League and fans who regarded Wenger as the best have started to think different. The ” In Arsene We Trust” slogans are decreasing day by day as Gunners are in the 8th year of their trophy drought, a feat that no other manager in the top 4 teams would have not survived without being sacked. So Why is Wenger not been sacked ? or are the Gunners are still living in their past glory ?

Whatever it may be, the fans have started becoming restless and Le Professeur himself is feeling the pressure. Normally a calm and collected person in front the media, had an outburst at Villa park last week. After a few days of reflection and relaxation, Wenger’s mood has changed as he gives a glimpse of his mind.

“Extreme opinions are picked and sold like a majority — which is not always the case.

“That means those who shout the loudest are usually presented because they are interesting and easy to sell.

“That some fans are not happy when you play 0-0 at Aston Villa I can understand because I am not happy.

“I want to win the game as well.

“But I do not share the fact that always the minority is presented like everyone thinks like them. Are the majority of the fans still with me? I don’t know. I am not worried about me. I can only give my best and let people judge.

“My desire is to make my fans happy and to share the football I love with them. But if it doesn’t happen I am not happy.

“My job is to give my full commitment to this club with integrity. And that’s what I always do without expecting any return.

“Who would not hope for support? But at the end of the season I want to stand in front of my mirror and think, ‘Could you have done more?’ I would like to see that. That’s all.”

Wenger did manage to achieve third place in the league and an automatic qualification to the Champions league, but the major part was done by Robin Van Persie’s left foot which is not there at Emirates this season to rescue Arsene Wenger. And the manager did slip out a sentence that last season was the best he has ever done after that historic unbeaten season which clearly indicates the ambitions of Arsenal which has come down from title contenders to champions league spot.

“Honestly I don’t think there was much more in the team than finishing third.

“My pride comes from that as well. That’s my target at the end of the season to say ‘OK’.

“Like when we won the Premier League with zero defeats which nobody else has done you can think there is not much room to do much better.

“My job is to get the best out of my team with the potential we have. If I get to the feeling, at the end of the season, that this team…”

Well certainly the best out the current team has not yet been out-cased and Wenger clearly is not happy about it. His reputation across North London has earned him a statue outside the stadium but as days run by and impatient fans start to ask more and more questions it could be a complete turn around for the French man. And Wenger continued:

“People forget we built a new stadium. We had to go through limited resources and maintained the club at the top and that we didn’t have the money available.

“I accepted to stay and to do that. We are now going towards a period where we will be able to compete again financially with other clubs.

“We know that. And we knew that would happen. So let’s hope we can show that in the future.”

With another disappointing draw against Everton last night, Arsenal are behind rivals Tottenham and 12 points adrift of leaders Man United at 7th place. Yet again the Gunners lacked urgency in the their cause and apart from a lucky Theo Walcott goal in the openings minutes of the game Arsenal were outplayed and shadowed by Everton and are lucky to bring back a point home. With this pace finishing 4th is miles away. Arsene Wenger will have to look out for new players in January to save his side and with the new sponsorship deal in hands failing to sign any big names would add fuel to the burning fire in the minds of the Arsenal fans.

For a man who has achieved so much for the club and for himself, the future does not look bright and if this is continued there is a strong chance of an overhaul at the end of the season.
