Cristiano Ronaldo got back at Mourinho in the perfect manner as he helped Real Madrid to a 3-1 victory over his former coach Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side. Ronaldo created the opener for left-back Marcelo and then went on to score two more goals, including a stunning free-kick to lift the International Champions cup.
Prior to the match, Jose Mourinho, talking to the press said:
“I was manager for the first time in the 2000 year but, before that, I was assistant in big clubs and with big managers and coaching the best players in the world so I was 30 and I was coaching Ronaldo, not this one [Cristiano], the real one, the Brazilian Ronaldo,” Mourinho told ESPN.
To which Ronaldo[Cristiano] replied,
“I prefer to remember the good things from coaches. I don’t spit on the plate from which I eat and I don’t speak about people who say bad things about me. I like to do my talking on the pitch. What happens off it doesn’t affect me. I aim to help Real Madrid to achieve its objectives and what happens away from there does not hurt me.”
Regarding the victory, he said: “The team is getting better all the time. It was the most important game of pre-season and it was against a very strong opponent. The team has been very well and the result is fair because we played better.”
Whether it was a serious issue or a friendly jibe, Ronaldo proved his worth on the pitch. Watch his individual highlights here:
