Liverpool v Red Bull Salzburg Report – Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool survived a massive scare to scrap away a narrow 4-3 win over Red Bull Salzburg at Anfield to open their account in this season’s Champions League group stage table.

The Reds had a three-goal lead at one point, which was overcome by the away side. However, a decisive goal by Mohamed Salah turned out to be the match-winner.

For the home side, Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and a brace from Salah were the goal scorers. The away side scored some good goals via Hwang Hee-Chan, Takumi Minamino and Erling Haaland.

After a fast start to the game, Mane handed Liverpool the lead in the ninth with a well-taken goal constructed between him and Roberto Firmino.

It was 2-0 around the 25th minute, when a sublime attacking move by the home side ended with right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold teeing off left-back Robertson to score.

10 minutes later, a Firmino header wasn’t saved cleanly by the Salzburg keeper, allowing Salah to tap home the third Liverpool goal.

Five minutes before half-time, the game’s first warning sign arrived when Hwang sidestepped Virgil van Dijk and planted his finish at the far post to pull one goal back for the away side.

Then, during a crazy first 15-minute spell of the second half, the Reds were on the ropes and conceded two goals. Minamino made it 3-2 with a well-taken finish, while star man Haaland tapped in from two yards to equalise for Salzburg around the hour mark to send Anfield into a state of shock.

Liverpool then showed some experience and worked their out of that trouble. The winning goal was scored by Salah in the 69th minute after a clever flick-on by Firmino in the box.

All in all, a win for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who were defensively all over the shop and lacked energy in midfield.

Here’s how their fans reacted after this game:
