Comparing Arsenal’s Xhaka And Manchester United’s Schneiderlin – Who Has Had The Better Season?

Granit Xhaka calls himself a leader and Arsenal seem to have gotten a steal by bringing the Swiss star to England. The 23-year-old could be the missing link for Arsene Wenger’s side as they look to win the Premier League for the first time in more than 10 years, but more importantly, he would be involved in a lot of battles in midfield and one great battle would be against Morgan Schneiderlin of Manchester United.

The French midfielder could be the one man who could match the Swiss sensation and even if he didn’t have the greatest season for the Red Devils, he still was one of their best players and just to see how well he does match up with the new Arsenal midfielder, we compare the two stars using Squawka.com.

The two players featured in almost the same number of games in the league and we would be looking at their stats based on the per 90-minute average stat.

Arsenal’s new boy vs The French destroyer-

Schneiderlin did move in 2015 to Manchester United after a couple of great seasons at Southampton, but couldn’t reach the same heights with the Red Devils. The 26-year-old did have a better pass completion for Manchester United than Xhaka for Borussia Monchengladbach last season.

The Manchester United star had a pass completion rate of 89% compared to 85% for the Swiss Arsenal star. That could be attributed to Xhaka trying out longer passes than the French midfielder as Xhaka’s average pass length was 19.5 metres compared to 16.7 for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Xhaka also provided more key passes per 90 with 0.8 key passes compared to just 0.37 for Schneiderlin at Manchester United. The Swiss midfielder also beats Morgan when it comes to tackles with per 90 minutes with 2.14 compared to just 2.04 for the Frenchman.

The stats keep on coming for the 23-year-old Arsenal signing with him winning 55% of his aerial duels compared to just a 38% winning record for the French Manchester United man. Xhaka seems to be made for the rather more tough Premier League matches and the stats do prove the same.

However, when it comes to cutting the play out, it is the French midfielder who edges out Xhaka with Morgan coming in with 2.98 interceptions per 90 compared to 2.78 for Xhaka last season. The Arsenal star also has a better number when it comes to blocks with 0.34 per 90 compared to 0.2 for the Manchester United star last season.

Xhaka does have the stats to show that he could be a star in the Premier League, even if the Bundesliga isn’t played at the same pace as the Premier League, he could become one of the best in the league and hopefully Arsenal have pulled off a coup which will pay dividends next season.
