Chris Wood Out, Ashley Barnes In – Strongest 4-4-1-1 Burnley Line-Up To Face Southampton On Saturday

Predicted Burnley Line-up To Face Southampton In The Premier League

Burnley will look to continue their excellent start to the season, when they clash against Southampton, at the St. Mary’s this Saturday.

The Clarets, led by Sean Dyche, are enjoying a fine start to the campaign, and are currently placed 7th in the Premier League table after 10 games. They come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at home on Monday night. Having lost just two games so far this season, Burnley will be looking to overpower the Saints at their home.

Team News

Captain and No.1 goalkeeper Tom Heaton continues to be absent for the Clarets due to a dislocated shoulder, while summer signing Jon Walters is also ruled out due to a knee injury. Midfielder Dean Marney is unlikely to be involved due to a lack of match fitness. Chris Wood did not feature in the win over Newcastle due to an injury but is likely to be a part of the matchday squad at the St. Mary’s.

Here’s how Burnley might line up against the South Coast club on Saturday;

Manager: Sean Dyche

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Nick Pope (GK)

The 25-year old has been brilliant between the sticks ever since Heaton’s injury. Four clean sheets in seven league outings and he will be keen on adding another one on Saturday.

Matthew Lowton (RB)

The 28-year old has started every single league game for the Clarets this term and that is unlikely to change this weekend.

Matthew Lowton

James Tarkowski (CB)

The 24-year old has emerged as a huge positive for Dyche’s side this term, with some good displays in the backline. Another start beckons.

Ben Mee (CB)

Alongside Tarkowski, it should be Englishman Ben Mee. The 28-year old has played every minute of league football this term and should make his 11th appearance on Saturday.

Stephen Ward (LB)

The Republic of Ireland international has been another highly impressive player for the Clarets this campaign. Should continue to feature at left-back, ahead of summer signing Charlie Taylor.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (RM)

The Icelandic international has been a constant fixture on the right-hand side of the midfield for his team. And that should remain the same against Southampton.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson

Jack Cork (CM)

The former Swansea City man has grown into a vital cog since his summer move to the Turf Moor. Is on four yellow cards and is at a risk of suspension.

Steven Defour (CM)

The Belgian is enjoying a second wind with the Lancashire based outfit after a disappointing first term with the club. Should partner Cork in the middle of the park.

Robbie Brady (LM)

On the left-hand side of the midfield, Irishman Robbie Brady is expected to start once again. Will have an important role to play with his crosses from out wide and set-piece delivery.

Jeff Hendrick (SS)

The hero from Monday’s win over Newcastle, Hendrick scored the only goal of the game, playing off the main striker. Should once again start in a similar role against the Saints.

Ashley Barnes (ST)

With Chris Wood just recovering from an injury, it is likely that Dyche might look to continue with Ashley Barnes at the top of the attack.
