Chelsea’s Strongest Possible XI to Face Liverpool: Costa and Loftus-Cheek to Start

Share

After getting knocked out in the League Cup by Soke City, Chelsea host Liverpool on Saturday and manager Jose Mourinho will look to get his team back on track or face the axe. How will the Blues lineup for the crucial match? Here is the possible playing XI for Chelsea

Goalkeeper: Asmir Begovic

Asmir Begovic will start as he goalkeeper against Liverpool ahead of the latest signing Marco Amelia.

Defenders: Kurt Zouma, Gary Cahill, John Terry, Cesar Azpilicueta

Kurt Zouma

Out-of-form Branislav Ivanovic is yet to recover from injury and in his absence, Mourinho tried playing Cesar Azpilicuea on the right and new signing Baba Rahman on the left. But in the last, few matches, Azpi started on the left with Frenchman Kurt Zouma playing as the right-back. This allows Chelsea to field the experienced duo of John Terry and Gary Cahill as the central defenders.

Midfielders: Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ramires, Willian, Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard

Another concern for Jose Mourinho is yet another Serb, Nemanja Matic. After a great 2014-15 season, the midfielder has been one of the failures for the Blues this season. Matic started for Chelsea in the last match against West Ham and was sent off in the first half. Though he is back from his one-match suspension, it is not that he will be guaranteed a start for the important clash against Liverpool. It is likely that Englishman Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be given a chance to start and he will be alongside Ramires as the holding midfielder with Cesc Fabregas playing as the number 10. Eden Hazard will play on the left and Willian on the right. It is highly unlikely that summer signing Pedro will start for the Blues.

Striker: Diego Costa

Diego Costa

Spanish striker Diego Costa was injured in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup penalty shoot-out defeat against Stoke City. But it has been stated that the striker is willing to play against Liverpool for his manager Jose Mourinho. If he is passed unfit before the lunchtime clash, Frenchman Loic Remy will start as the striker for Chelsea.
