Why Celtic should sign Greg Taylor to replace Kieran Tierney
According to a report in Football Scotland (h/t Daily Record), Scottish champions Celtic are looking at the possibility of signing Kilmarnock left-back Greg Taylor to replace Kieran Tierney before the transfer deadline day.
Taylor has been a subject of interest from German side Nuremburg after a sublime season at Rugby Park last time around. Now, Neil Lennon’s men have also joined the race. (h/t Football Scotland)
The Hoops have other names in consideration as well, but the 21-year-old is at the top of the wishlist. Brentford’s Sergio Rico is also their target, but going in that direction could cost them a higher amount. (h/t Football Scotland)
Currently, Taylor has a contract at Kilmarnock that runs until the summer of 2021. He is a Rangers academy product, who has taken top-flight football by storm over the past season or so.
Here’s why Celtic shouldn’t hesitate in signing him before the deadline:
Taylor could be an ideal Tierney replacement
Greg Taylor is a quality young left-back who can also operate in central midfield. Since given a chance to start for the first-team at Kilmarnock, the 21-year-old has progressed well and is now an established fullback-cum-midfielder.
During the course of last season, he played 41 games in all competitions, scoring a goal and assisting a further four.
In terms of attributes, Taylor possesses good pace to make runs up and down the pitch on the left-hand side. He is physically strong, can pass the ball well, is a good crosser and is not bad when it comes to defending in one-vs-one situations in the wide areas.
So if Celtic are looking to replace their star left-back Kieran Tierney with Taylor, then they are right. Just 21 years old, the Kilmarnock man could go on to become a long-term left-back solution for the Hoops.
