Why Cardiff City should take a gamble on Birmingham City’s Isaac Vassell
According to a report from BBC, Cardiff City are interested in signing Birmingham City forward Isaac Vassell.
Isaac Vassell, 25, was snapped up by Luton Town from Truro City back in July 2016. The player netted 16 goals in 55 games during his time at Kenilworth Road. He was sold to Birmingham City in August 2017 but has only played 24 times while at St Andrew’s, suffering two serious injuries.
The report claims Luton Town and Swansea City are both believed to be interested in the 25-year-old but Cardiff City appear clear favourites to land the striker (h/t BBC).
Vassell starred previously for Luton but could well be keen on a move to the Bluebirds as he looks to kickstart his career at pastures new.
Neil Warnock has been desperate to add more options to his squad as he looks to build a side capable of winning promotion at the first time of asking. He has lost his premium striker in Kenneth Zohore to promotion rivals West Brom and needs to fill the void left by him before today’s transfer deadline.
Vassell is hardly a name which will get Swansea fans’ hearts racing with excitement, but he has all the attributes to thrive in Warnock’s direct system at the Cardiff City Stadium.
He has struggled for goals and fitness during his time at St Andrew’s, but there is potential in him and Warnock could be the right manager in getting the best out of him.
The ex-Luton Town man boasts express pace, has good movement and is technically sound but the challenge for Warnock will be to help the player maintain his fitness level and perform on a consistent basis. The 25-year-old would be perfect for the Bluebirds as he possesses the ability to play out wide or up front.
He would suit the versatility that Warnock will no doubt crave from any forward in his team, whilst also providing adequate cover for new recruits Gavin Whyte and Robert Glatzel.

Cardiff struggled to score goals in the Premier League and the potential arrival of Vassell would address an area of the pitch that is in dire need of a bit more quality ahead of the Championship campaign.
Despite his injury setbacks in the last couple of seasons, the acquisition of Vassell could prove to be a shrewd piece of business from Warnock and Cardiff.
