Capello appointed as Russian Manager

Share

Fabio Capello has been appointed as the Russian manager with a initial two year deal which will keep him at the job till Brazil World cup in 2014. The 66-year-old Italian will take charge of Russia starting with their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

The precise financial details of the agreement between the Russian federation and Capello remains undisclosed.

Capello’s first task is to smooth tensions following Russia’s disappointing exit from Euro 2012 under predecessor Dick Advocaat.

The team fell at the group stages and skipper Andrey Arshavin exacerbated the problem by claiming the players had nothing to apologise for and were happy to go home.

Capello said: “I will talk to him and enquire where this lack of love for the fans, this lack of love for the Russian shirt, comes from.”

“My next goal – to reach the finals of the World Cup in Brazil,” he said.

“After I had finished working in England, I was angry, and I wanted to continue working.

“I really want to achieve your goals and fight for the Cup in Brazil.

“I’ll try to get my philosophy to match that which has brought the Russian national team success, and we will go to the World Cup in Brazil.”

The former AC Milan and Real Madrid manager also indicated his intention to utilise the growing number of foreign players now resident in the country and playing in the Russian Premier League.

He added: “One should not forget that teams like Germany and Italy have players with dual nationalities. Spain has those players as well and they are champions.”

Capello impressed in the early stages of his tenure with England and had the the highest winning ratio of any England manager by winning 67% of his games, although the national team struggled at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where they were knocked out in the last 16 stage by Germany.
Cappelo earlier suggested that his job with the Three Lions would be his last in football.

But he resigned in the wake of a disastrous World Cup 2010 exit and the row over John Terry losing the captaincy

Capello appointed as the Russian manager will be having a tough job to maintain his status as one of the greatest managers.
