English Premier League

Can this u-21 Liverpool star break into the first team next season?

One of the rising stars from the Liverpool side is certainly making a name for himself this season. Cameron Brannagan has been one of the youngsters who has done exceptionally well for Liverpool this season under Jurgen Klopp and well it seems that a certain club from Spain are set to bid for the 19-year-old.

Barcelona seems to have sent scouts to check out on the English midfielder and they actually did try to sign him in 2014 before the youngster signed a long-term contract with the Merseyside club. Brannagan has made a handful of appearances this season for the side, though he has not played an entire Premier League game this season.

Let us find out what makes him so special that the Catalan side are willing to send scouts to watch him play.

A Manchester lad in Liverpool

This might be one of the big shocks but Brannagan was actually born in Manchester and joined the Liverpool setup at the age of five. The youngster became a regular player for the U21’s in the 2013 season and has not looked backed ever since.

He made his senior debut for the side in the Europa League against Bordeaux in 2015 and even Jurgen Klopp has stated that Brannagan has “everything you need” in a midfielder. The Liverpool youngster has also represented the English national side at the U-18 level.

Brannagan mostly plays in midfield, though he can play as an attacking midfielder, he is most comfortable in central midfield. The 19-year-old is known for his range of passing and even knows how to make important short passes as well trying to unlock a defence.

Cameron also can run with the ball at his feet, which is one of his greatest strengths. He might not be a Lionel Messi with the ball but he certainly can give many players a run for their money. Brannagan also is good at set-pieces with his delivery, which we haven’t seen all that much though since in the first team at Liverpool it is mostly Coutinho and Milner who take over set-piece duty.

There is a reason why Brannagan signed a new contract with the Reds and that is with Jurgen Klopp at the helm. The German has been brilliant so far and a lot of players have seen a growth in their confidence and ability.

Klopp knows how to get the best out of the players he has and the chances he has given to the youngsters; they are in safe hands in Liverpool considering the enhanced odds offers. Brannagan might be tempted to move to Barcelona but he would be nowhere close to the first team and should stay at Liverpool.

The Reds have a bright future under Klopp and well, the 19-year-old should be part of those bright plans for this and next season especially.
