Can Arsenal Snap-up This 20-Year Old Austrian?

If the rumours are like feathers on the cap, then by now Arsenal would perhaps have no space left on their cap for any more. But still they have been blessed with yet another transfer rumour, this time it being Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

Alaba had started the season as the left back for the German champions, who are also the reigning European champions but Alaba had always wanted to play more centrally as he felt he was more suited to play in midfield role rather than the defensive position. However, for that he has to overcome Schweinsteiger and Martinez which does not look to be a realistic chance.

Now when you have a 20 year old unsettled youngster from a top club in the world who has made quite a few headlines with his talents, is it possible to keep him off the radar of a certain Arsene Wenger for a very long period of time? So as a law of the nature, Wenger has showed interest in the player who wants a life out of Bayern.

Arsenal are definitely looking for a man to boost their central midfield and have looked at the option of Fellaini. But with Chelsea and Manchester United also intending to sign the Belgian, it may be said with all due respect that Arsenal’s chances are pretty low.

Thus the name of David Alaba is being thrown into the ring, who has previously been part of Bayern’s youth set up. The Austrian has been a part of the senior team from 2010 and has also graduated through the ranks of the youth teams to feature in the senior national team 24 times. So, even at this tender age of 20, Alaba has no shortage of experience.

Now the main question that remains to be unsolved is how much transfer fee will Bayern demand for this very promising player? With two years still left in his contract the Gunners should not think of getting him at a cheap price, although they have a rumoured huge budget with them. But if they add Laurent Koscielny to the deal, then the whole equation changes. But then parting ways with Koscielny may be a bitter pill that Arsene will have to swallow anyway.

Playing in a defensive position, Alaba has created 14 chances from his 23 appearances in the league and total of 11 clear chances and 3 assists.

And with a pass accuracy of 89%, which is perfect for an Arsenal man Alaba could be a valuable addition to the helm.
